But what if, after passing years and years assuming your feline or doggie companion was your best pal, your Meowlingual or Bowlingual told you that your favourite pet’s bark or meow actually meant: “I don’t like you?” That would be a sad situation. On the other hand, no one would ever have to ask Lassie: “What’s that girl? Tommy’s in the well?” ever again, because the translator would be able to say exactly where Tommy was."
