DMA and Linux contd...

So I found the file that had the DMA info for my DVD drive (read previous entry). Its in /etc/sysconfig/hardware. I removed a line and got my shit working. After getting my Mplayer to work properly, i realized that I didn't even need DMA enabled on my drive. The previous program that I used (Xine) was just bullshiting me. I poped in a DVD, opened Mplayer and I was watching the movie. Hurray for me.
Side note for those who might use Linux as their main OS: If you plan to use MPlayer, make sure that the color depth is set to at least 16bpp.

DMA and Linux

If anyone knows where does hdparm save DMA on/off info in linux, please let me know.
I am trying to get my DVD player to work properly. By default DMA was not enabled and because of it, the damn thing was skipping frames. Anyways, I tried to enable DMA through Yast (thats on SuSe 9.2), but being a smart ass, I chose the wrong DMA size and froze up the whole process. Now the damn thing (YAST) wouldn't even close. Even if I try to kill the process, nothing happens. Last option: RESET. Now here comes the funny part: even though i Reset my computer, this new DMA setting stays, so I can't go back to YAST and change it back to default, because it freezes up. That's why I need to find out where exactly is this DMA info being saved, so I can edit the file manually.

This past weekend I spent $240 on new front drive shafts. The old one (right side) just poped out and could not be put back. What's up with that???

A late "back from my trip" entry

No matter how nice is to be out in the nowhere, it always feels good to be home.
The new years party was so-so. Thanks to some idiot who pissed me off with his attitude and childish behavour, I didn't feel like partying at all. I didn't even get drunk on New Years eve.
Also for my luck, I got the living room to sleep in, so I had to wait for everybody to go bed before I could.
To my dissapointment, it rained there too on the 30th, so I could not skate on the lake. There were an extra 3 inches of water on top of the ice. I was hoping that by Saturday it would freeze, but that didn't happen. Well it did freeze, but not enough. By Sunday it froze but overnight we got ice pellets. You know the rest.
Highlight of the trip: we saw two raindeers in the woods. I made some pictures too, but because of the distance, they didn't come out that good. I wish I had a professional camera with some high powered lenses.
Anyways that's it about my trip. I don't want to bore you any longer.
