Merry Christmas 2006

12.25.06 - 01:09pm
mood: meh

I was up till 6am last night, because we do the christmas thing on the 24th and open our presents at midnight and then play with said presents till way too late into the night. I just got out of bed, but had a terrible sleep because it was interrupted by a million phone calls and text messages this morning, so if I was out of it when I talked to any of you my apologies : )

...and to those that sms'd me, I'll start replying to all of you now.

(my head is killing me from that inconsistent sleep, hopefully some fruitcake will cure what ails me)

Christmas Shopping Hyjinx

12.22.06 - 11:45pm
mood: meh

So me and Monika decided to leave our shopping till the last possible moment, which was today.

It was a horrible idea, I kicked some old lady at one point, Mon got coffe spilled all over her white hoodie by some douchebag at starbucks... basically the Christmas spirit was alive and well with the mall patrons... so anyways she ended up getting almost everyone on her list covered, where as I ended up with ONE, thats right only ONE person on my list crossed off... ohh and we ended up with these, so I guess it wasn't a totall loss...

I'm off on vacation for a week, and not a moment too soon.
This is some long over due rest and relaxation time, and I plan to make the most of it.

Patagonia

12.19.06 - 05:37pm

Patagonia is the portion of South America in Argentina and Chile made up of the Andes mountains to the west and south and plateaus and low plains to the east.

It is for the most part a region of vast steppe-like plains, rising in a succession of abrupt terraces about 100 meters (330 feet) at a time, and covered with an enormous bed of shingle almost bare of vegetation.[1] In the hollows of the plains are ponds or lakes of brackish and fresh water. Towards the Andes the shingle gives place to porphyry, granite, and basalt lavas, animal life becomes more abundant and vegetation more luxuriant, acquiring the characteristics of the flora of the western coast, and consisting principally of southern beech and conifers. The high rainfall against the western Andes and the low sea surface temperatures offshore give rise to cold and humid air masses, contributing to the ice-fields and glaciers, the largest ice-fields in the Southern hemisphere outside of Antarctica.

About a month ago I was watching Discovery Channel HD (regular Discovery Channel is for suckers!) and caught a show about a trip through the Chilean part of Patagonia. I knew about the Tierra Del Fuego geology down south, but was not familiar with the landscape of the Patagonia region. It is a really cool looking place carved up over millions of years by glaciers and the ocean.

After seeing it on TV I talked about it with my mom who told me more about it, and also said that my grandfather had always talked about going there someday. Cut to a few weeks later when after a brilliant idea on my part, my mom, sister and I pitched in and got him tickets for a cruise and excursion through Patagonia for his birthday. He just got back last week and was so happy to have finally gone there. Today my cousin forwarded us some pictures from the trip so here's two of them:

Da Funk

mood: meh
music playing: Daft Punk - Da Funk
Since I woke up this morning I've had Daft Punk's Da Funk song in my head. I have no idea why since I've not heard the song in AGES, it's sort of driving me crazy now...

12 Days

12.15.06 - 10:44pm
mood: Exhausted

This marks the start of my weekend after having worked for the past 12 days straight. I am exhausted, and plan to sleep for the entire weekend. If only I could think of something wittier and more entertaining to write, but I can't, because I am beat, so this post is over.

Product: Burton Series 13

12.01.06 - 10:51am
mood: meh

Burton's new Series 13 website launched, enabling riders to design their own snowboard online. With more board models, lengths and features, this year's site makes it easier than ever to create your dream board. Choose between 11 of Burton's highest-end boards to customize and make your own, including special limited-edition models like a top-shelf version of the Fish featuring a Dragonfly core, stainless steel edges and WFO base.

In addition to choosing the board's artwork, finish and sidewall colors, you can set up your board with either a 3D or 2X stance pattern. More women's models and board lengths are also available giving riders a huge selection of choices. The new site also allows you to design a one-of-a-kind, laser-etched leather board or write your own message on the board's base.

Later this fall, Series 13 will go global and offer riders around the world a chance to build their own board. Also coming soon, the site will feature a tool that allows you to upload images or artwork to create your own signature topsheet graphic. Stop by the site often to see additional tools and features throughout the season.

Series 13, the world's first customizable snowboard program, premiered last year, offering riders over one million different ways to individualize their boards. All Series 13 boards are individually built by hand at the Burton Manufacturing Center in Burlington, Vermont. Through a partnership with select Burton Authorized Dealers, Burton ships completed Series 13 boards to a participating dealer of your choice for pick-up. Each board comes with a metal nameplate inlay that can be engraved as you wish. A leather bag, a certificate of authenticity signed by Jake Burton and a build sheet signed by all the workers who created your one of a kind masterpiece is included with your board.

OH MY GOD DO I WANT ONE!! I designed my own board YEARS ago, it's about time I was able to get it made!! Although with the fact that they start at $930USD I may have to hold off on getting one for a while.
