Concert: 30 Seconds to Mars

Went to the 30sec show last night, I was told they suck live, but I can now attest to the fact that it was a total lie, for they are are great live! I was only introduced to this band about two months ago, and I must say Jarred Leto (yes THAT Jared Leto [yes "too fucking blond", Jared Leto]), is such an unexpectedly good singer, that this band is climbing the ranks on my ipod charts.

The show was great, they came out waving these giant 30 Sec flags, and wearing these totally white, kabuki, bandannad, rebel warrior type of outfits not unlike what is see in their From Yesterday video.

As for the music, I was pissed that they didn't play my favourite song Buddha for Marry, but ATTACK and The Kill were performed so well that all is forgiven. A particular part of the show which I enjoyed was when Jared didn't stage dive into the crowd only to retreat like so many other singers, but instead he made his way into the cyclone of fury known as the circle pit and kept singing from in there and then made his way through the rest of the crowd all the while still singing The Kill.

To wrap this up, I'll leave you with this little fact. Did you know that their video for The Kill was filmed at the Carlu in Toronto? Well it was, but don't ask me to explain the bear in that video... because for all The Shining references in the video, I don't recall a bear scene in The Shining. Jarred said they are coming back in a few months on the Taste of Chaos festival, which I attended last year, and from the looks of it plan on attending this year again.

30 Seconds to Mars - The Kill:
"Nature reveals her unseen beauty in an up-close-and-personal fashion in the photographs of Paul Harcourt Davies and Peter Parks. Zooming in on the "faces" of dragonflies and hornets, unearthing the intricate patterns of fungi and mosses, and even capturing the active beauty of plankton, Nature Photography Close Up presents a "think small" approach to natural subjects. Containing dozens of full-color photographs, each accompanied by a succinct and insightful essay, this gorgeous book doubles as a showcase and an instructional guide. Any photographers with an interest in macro nature photography will enjoy this new way of looking at the unseen wonders around them." - Amazon.com
Peter Parks is the macro-photographer whoms work Daren Arrenofsky based the surreal look of the space sequences from The Fountain on. He photographed soups of bacteria and various fluids which were used to to create the deep space effects for the film.

Schnitzel

Before the birthday last night, went out for dinner to a European Restaurant in the Bloor West Village, where I had what is known as a "Schnitzel". I had never seen let alone eaten, a "Schnitzel" before, but after a favourable description of the food by my dining companion I thought it sounded interesting so I decided to get adventurous with my eating and opted to try it instead of the safe and well explored Chicken Parmesan.
I must say the recommendation to try it was spot on, as this Schnitzel was tasty and insanely filling. I only managed to get through half the Schnitzel which was mocked by said dinning companion, who finished all of hers. But in my defence hers was a tiny ass Schnitzel where as mine took up an ENTIRE plate! If I finished the whole thing I'm sure a Cardiopulmonary bypass would have been required.

So to wrap this up, Schnitzel's are tasty.

We went out to celebrate Mr Jays big 29 last night. I got into an argument about URI vs URL and a tentative trip to Tokyo was planned, fun was had all around.
This morning Greenpeace activists blocked the entrance of Kimberly-Clark's largest mill facility in North America using a bus outfitted as a giant tissue box. The activists are refusing to move until the company agrees to meet with Greenpeace representatives and establishes a timeline to end sourcing wood fiber from logging operations in the Boreal forest.
Until Kimberly-Clark decide to listen, and stop the destruction of British Columbia’s 10,000 year old coastal temperate rainforests, avoid these brands:

Canada: Kleenex
United States: Kleenex, Scott, Viva, Cottonelle
Global: Kleenex, Cottonelle, Cottonelle Puppy, Andrex, Scottbrand, Hakle, Scottex

Disposable Teens

And I'm a black rainbow
And I'm an ape of god
I got a face thats made for violence upon
I'm a teen distortion
Survived abortion
A rebel from the waist down

I wanna thank you mom
I wanna thank you dad
For bringing this fucking world
To a bitter end
I never really hated a one true God
But the God of the people I hated

You said you wanted evolution
The ape was a great big hit
You say you want a revolution, man
And I say that youre full of shit

We're disposable teens,
We're disposable teens

The more that you fear us
The bigger we get
The more that you fear us
The bigger we get
And don't be surprised, don't be surprised
Don't be surprised when we destroy all of it
