Back In Toronto

music playing: Mos Def & Diverse - Wylin Out (RJD2 Remix)
I'm back in the good old Eastern Time Zone, and better yet back home, with my precious desktop PC.

The trip back home was great. I'll write up more about said trip back, and my closing thouhgs on BC later on. Right now this guy is going out to do some heavy Toronto style drinking.

... I will leave you with a bit of a cliff-hanger, so I can be sure that you'll return to read this post when I update it.

Here goes the cliff-hanger: Something smells funky in my room, tune in later on to find out what the source of the funk was.

Whistler Day Six

01.29.05 - 01:47am
mood: meh
music playing: 9MM Solution - Candiria
Todat was an auspicious last day in Whislter. We went through our favourite runs and then headed up to the peak for the last run of the day. Today, thanks to the snowfall from the past few days, the Peak to Creek run was open, ungroomed, but open none the less. Chris and I got seperated on there pretty quickly and I didn't see him till I got to the bottom of the mountain. The route I took down was pretty rough due to the ungroomed nature of the snow. After grinding through some pretty steep ice covered drops, I spotted a cool bowl just off the trail and dropped into it. From the bowl I was led into the woods where I did some back country riding for about a half hour before making my way back down to the main trail.

Riding through the trees and dodging hidden snow covered rocks is pretty damn fun and nerve wrecking. I almost wiped out twice after hitting small burried rocks. If not for the helmet I would have been quite freaked out about those obstacles.

Last time I did the Peak to Creek it took me about 3hrs to get through it, this time only 2hrs. That's one hell of an improvement if you ask me. I wish I had another week here to improve my riding and cut that time down to an hour. But alas my time here is done, and it was an awsome last run down the mountain.

After the runs closed, I headed back to the hotel and crashed for far too long, didn't get up for dinner till like 8pm.
While out for said dinner, we talked to this chick from the exotic land Callingwood, Ontario. She has been living out here for three years, and has been coming here for 6 years. She said that this has been the worst season she had ever seen weather wise. She then started bitching about global warming and this thing she saw on The Learning Channel, and basically totally hippied out on the conversation (damn BC, hippies out everyone that stays for too long!).

Now it's time to finish packing and get ready to leave tomorrow morning. Next time I post on the blog I will hopefully be back in the sanity of the Eastern Standard Time Zone.

Whistler Day Four

01.26.05 - 08:56pm
mood: meh

Another nice day in Whistler, no rain and plenty of snow abouts. We spent most of the day at the Terrain Park. I was owning the fun box (ya, ya, I know, like it's that hard :P ), and my 50/50 rail slide is starting to get almost respectable. There were a few falls and a couple of bruises but I'm still alive and kicking, and raring to try it again tomorrow.

Now I need to go rest because my gleaming muscles are killing me (the primary gleam muscle being the calves follwed by upper leg).

Whistler Day Three, Nightlife

01.26.05 - 01:19am
mood: Moo

Well, we still don't know where they keep all the hot ski bunnies at night, but tonight we have found something just as good. After dinner we went prowlin' around the Village lookin for them, but instead of bunnies, we came across the coolest store ever, it's called Cows!! All they sell there is cow merchandise. I picked up a West Coast Cows t-shirt and a 2005 Cows Calendar, they are the best thing ever! I might go back tomorrow for some cow puppets and boxers, and cow ice-cream scoopers, and cows... my god I'm in cow overdrive!! Someone stop me!

Whistler Day Three

01.25.05 - 09:00pm
mood: meh

The weather cleared up and they opend the peak on Whistler! Elevation 2,180m above sea level, awsomeness 100% totally, as in totally awsome!
We rode from the peak of the mountain to the base, it's called the Peak to Creek run. Well actually I meant to do that run but missed the Creek part and ended up in the Village, I don't think they have a clever rhyming name for that run, but it's the same deal except you endup at the Village instead of the Creek.

Theres this part up in the peaks called sumtin Bowl, it was so cool, I cut through the bowl instead of staying on the outside of it where the trail was. It was really cool, I got to hit some snow that NO ONE had ridden on!! ... well hadn't ridden since the last snow fall at least : P

At one point I rode up to some cliff drop that some crazy kids were taking. That was a bit too hardcore for me and I went back to the trail. Eventually hitting the Olympic run which we've been riding from the alpine level lifts, and from there it was home free down to the Village.

Whistler Day Two

01.25.05 - 02:36am
mood: Exhausted

More of the same today, rain, snow, fun.

Temperature here in the valley, outside of our hotel this morning was 8°c. It was raining and it was rather hot with all my boarding gear on. After the halfhour of riding gondolas to the top of the mountian... well as high up as they let us go with the avalanche warning in effect. We were above the rain level and it was SNOWING. So to recap, valley 8°c with rain, alpine (1,835m above sea level) -2°c and snowing. It's a crazy little weather system they have here.

Breakfast at 1,835m above sea level just tastes better for some reason. Maybe it's the view ; )

First day in Whistler

01.24.05 - 02:48am
mood: meh

(time = -3hrs from the timestamp or for the ones that can't do math. time = 01/23/04 - 11:48pm)

The first day has been a bit wet and by a bit I mean, insanely wet. It's been raining all day.

When we got up this morning we hesitantly looked at the rain outside and geared up to hit the slopes. We're about a 5min walk away from the Creekside gondola, so after a short stroll in the rain we started heading up the mountain.

At the base of the hill where we boarded the snow looked pretty shitty, it was melted away and there was just a lot of slush with a base depth of 20cm in the spots where there was actually snow left.

On the gondola we had a really nice view of the mountian and the valley below where our hotel is. The ride up to the top of the lift was about 10-15min long. About three quarters of the way up we saw ourselves approaching a layer of clouds, which we then went through and then were over, looking down on them. It looked beyond cool.

At the Alpine height level of the mountain, past the first set of clouds, the weather was much better. Still raining mind you, just not nearly as much, there was a nice thick base of snow and it was really not bad to ride on. The snow was sticky and granular, so it packed in easily and caused me to pick up way too much speed on more than one ocassion.

What was crazy about the weather here is that there were 3 different weather systems we went through going from the top of the mountain down to the bottom. At the bottom it was the worst because you had 2 layers of clouds raining on you, where as higher up, past the tree lines there was only one layer of clouds and a lot less rain. If it wasn't for the fact that there's a high avalanche risk and the peak of the moutain was closed off, we could have even gone over that top layer of clouds!

Needless to say the 380$ investment on my jacket was money well spent, because at the end of the day I was not even a bit wet. The 150,000mm water resistance reallyed payed off. Ditto for the pants. The only part of me that was dampend by the rain were my gloves, which after a putting up a good fight, eventually caved in and started soaking up water.

Apart from the rain, and dampness. It was a very fun day, the mountain is incredible and the scenery is just beautifull. We only found one of their parks while riding around, it was fun, I tried to 50/50 a rail and failed to land it every time. On my third attempt I slipped and bounced off the rail with my ass. That quite hurt, so I gave up for the day.

For the evening we headed into the main village to paaaaarrrttyy down. We saw some cool ass fireshow, where they had girls spining fireballs around and people jumping/tricking through hoops of fire on their boards and skis It was very cool.

We then headed over to a bar... and then another bar. And them came to the conclusion that we must have been in the gay bar part of town becauase it was a sausage fest everywhere!! Tomorrow were goin to skip the bars and head straight to the clubs.

Now I'll leave you with some random thoughts from the day. Public Trasit only costs 1.50 up here! Everyone and I mean EVERYONE that works here is either British or Australian, what's up with that? Rich people have houses with heated swimming pools, don't you just hate them? Damn rich bastards.

iPod photo, album art gone!

01.21.05 - 06:03am
mood: meh
music playing: Leftfield - Melt
Here's a strange bug with the iPod photo and iTunes 4.7 that I encountered this past week of iPodding, and which I had found no mention of online.

After I added the first 5 albums to the pod, I unplugged it, checked out the songs and saw the nifty cover art displayed with my songs. I really liked that feature.

I then added a few hundred more albums and went back to the iPod to listen to them. At this point I noticed that some tracks which did have art displayed in iTunes, were not displaying any album art during playback on the pod. I then loaded up some of the first few albums I had put on it, and some were now missing their artwork.
This confused the hell out of me and I spent the past 6 days trying to figure out how to get my artwork back.

I'll spare everyone the gory details of everything I tried in order to get back my art, but suffice it to say that there was plenty of hair pulling involved.

Here is the fix:
Go to your "iPod Options" in iTunes, turn off "Display Album Art", hit "Ok". Repeat those steps to re-enable the Album Art.

Once you disable/re-enable the Display Album Art option, iPod will rebuild the ArtworkDB and corresponding Thumbnails database.

After the data files are rebuilt, all your art is once again gloriously displayed on the iPod.

Memo To The DVD Marketing Department

music playing: Jay-z and Linkin Park - Points of Authority / 99 Problems / One Step Closer
Dear Sirs,

Extended edition with deleted scenes is not really as big a selling point as you make it out to be in your marketing material. In fact it's kind of hard to extend a movie without including deleted scenes. So by saying something that stupid you end up making peoples brains implode from the sheer stupidity that you have made them endure.

Sincerely, A Fan

BC Trip Checklist

01.17.05 - 10:43pm
mood: meh
music playing: Busta Rhymes - Bladow
  • jacket
lightweight, at least 10,000mm waterproof jacket
  • pants
lightweight, at least 10,000mm water proof pants
  • base layer
technical layer, wicking material, long johns and under shirt to move sweat away from body and keep my ass dry
  • board bag
    padded
  • boot bag
    for my boots!!
  • helmet
check out Giro - Bad Luitenent
  • small backpack
must fit extra hoodie, snack/water, batteries, camera, cdplayer
  • metal carry case
need metalic, impact resistant case for the cd player ipod

I finished buying the last few important items today. I'm just missing a base layer which I can buy anywhere. So that just leaves the insanely ellusive metal case for the iPod. I've seen them all over the net but no one in Toronto seems to have them, and since the trip is in 4 days, I sort of need to find it locally cause online ordering can't be trusted in such a bind. The ironic part is that the best damn metal case is made by a local Toronto company!! So you'd think I could find it, but NOOOO... well maybe that's not irony, but it really gets my goat, if you know what I mean.
Time for plan B, call the company headquarters and harass them till they either A) sell me one directly or B) give me the exact location of someone in the near vicinity that carries them.
update: HUZZA!! A friendly townsfolk guided me towards this Queen St East shop, that specializes in Apple gear, they are called Carbon Computing. I'll give them a ring tomorrow and hopefully drive down to get the case before work.

The Sickness

music playing: Chemical Brothers - The Sunshine Underground
Theres a cold epidemic going around at the moment. Alex, Bill and Allison are sick, and I'm being blammed as patient zero.
I clearly stated that I was sick, and therefore should hold of on the use of tongues, aka standard "No tongue baby" policy. But they didn't heed my caution. And now they are all sick and blaming me. So tough bananas I say. Enjoy the fever suckers : P

Some Hot Books

Book: Panties - by Dave Naz, Lydia Lunch
Panties
by Dave Naz, Lydia Lunch
Hardcover: 160 pages
Publisher: Goliath Books (February 1, 2003)
ISBN: 3936709017
The models are supposedly all "scrubbed free of any artifice" and the feel of the book is definitely a candid, casual one. The models are beautiful, with realistic bodies and easy poses (some of them even have their panties down -- yum!). These are definitely some of the more natural feeling nude photos this reviewer has ever seen. Recommended.(Blowfish)

Kinky Couture
by Emma Delves-Broughton
Hardcover: 112 pages
Publisher: SCB Distributors; Multilingu edition (March 1, 2004)
ISBN: 3936709076
Photographer Emma Delves-Broughton has a unique vision, combining kinky latex outfits, grand 18th Century architecture, and a dash of whimsy with skill and confidence. The introduction by Emily Mathisen hints at the lengths that Ms. Delves-Broughton goes to in order to realize her vision: commissioned hairdressers and fetish-wear custom made by some of today's best fetish designers, not to mention lush locales and exquisite make-up, all add up to some truly gorgeous photography.(Blowfish)

If someone forgot to get me a christmas present then feel free to buy me any and or all of these : )
Order from Blowfish or Amazon if you have cupons there, just order them for me!

Boycott Bacardi Rum / Flo-Sun Sugar

01.03.05 - 11:26pm
mood: meh

Here is the short version for those that don't wish to read the long post: Bacardi is owned by assholes, if you need some rum get Havana Club.
Now on with the full version: Bacardi Martini and Flo-Sun Sugar are owned by two rich Cuban born brothers whose wealthy family lost quite a bit of land during the Revolution.

These two brothers, through their corporations, gave $1.44million in campaign contributions during the 2000 U.S. Presidential Election (no numbers yet, for 2004). This "contribution" pretty much gave them free reign to dictate U.S. Policy towards Cuba. A position which they use to stop any attempt of normalizing trade relations with the struggling island. Bacardi was also the main instigator of the 1996 Helms-Burton law. A law which tightened the US embargo on Cuba.
The person now in charge of enforcing the Helms-Burton law is Mr. Bush's top Latin American diplomat, Otto J. Reich. He helped write the Helms Burton bill and also worked as a paid Bacardi lobbyist from 1997 to 2000, according to the Center for Responsive Politics. He is reported to have received a fee of $600,000 from Bacardi for his services.
All this meddling with the government and the guys aren't even U.S. Citizens, they changed their citizenship to Spain, but live in West Palm Beach, Florida (a shady tax scheme no doubt).

Of course none of this is "new" information, I just got tired of telling people about it.
Now that it's written down and online I can just point them to it, and save my breath for other speeches.

music playing: Chemical Brothers - Close Your Eyes (feat The Magic Numbers)
Book - Wonderland, by R. Klanten, B. Meyer, S. Ehmann, Die Gestalten
One of my favourite art books of last year gets a follow up:

"Wonderland" is a stunning compilation of the very latest inspiring and surprising graphic design, illustration, photography and fine art from around the world that has just being released in North America. Focusing on dreams, the imagination, the surreal and the divine, it builds on themes introduced in dgv's well-received title from last year "Romantik."

But while "Romantik" mostly revolves around longing, "Wonderland" depicts dramatic occurrences and experiences. The fantastical work featured in the book is presented as a visual essay of captivating intensity.

Wonderland features work by the following designers and artists: Gints Apsits, Thomas Barwick, Nina Jan Beier, Cecilia Carlstedt, Marco Cibola, Container, Chris Duncan, Eike’s grafischer Hort, Maren Esdar, James Gallager, Croa, Richard Gray, Greyscale, Takeshi Hamada, Koen Hauser, Ngo Phuc Hien, Sei Hishikawa, Yoko Ikeno, Kareem Iliya, Inocuo Design, Simen Johan, Kiyoshi Kuroda, Inga Liksaite, Won Ju Lim, Lobo, Matte, Craig Metzger, mijuly, Maria Mochnacz, Nawel, Erwin Olaf, Linn Olofsdotter Costa, Pandarosa, Mikko Rantanen, Sophy Rickett, Speto, Toshifumi Tanabu, Taobot/Danny Franzreb, Sophie Toulouse, Vault 49, Sunday Vision, Txema Yeste, Liselotte Watkins and Autumn Whitehurst

The book is already out in the publishers home land of Germany, hopefully I won't have to wait too long before the book shows up on our local bookshelves.

Happy New Year Bitches!

Im just gettin in... I'm crashing now... recapp of tonight will have to wait till later...

Here comes the recapp:

Plan A for this New Years was to go to Montreal and party down with the rowdy french-canadians. Unfortunately that plan fell apart and we were left to scramble for last minute backups. Plan B involved some Lybians, some plutonium and a Delorean, but those plans didn't work out quite as expected either.
With hours left till midnight, we hastily ran through backup plans C-Z. These plans included such hilites as 107, The Phoenix, Glass Tiger, and Lesbian Ecstasy Night at Club V, after weighing all our options we settled for going to the DanceCave to meet up with Chris and company.

They played some music that wasn't AS horrible as I expected from the usual DanceCave fanfare, and there were a couple of cuties strewn about. So it was not at all a bad night... actually that's a lie, after the Cave we hit Mel's for some late night breakfast and the service SUCKED. But other than that problem it was not at all a bad night.
