After finding out that they had opened up a couple of runs up north, Chris and I grabbed our boards and headed up west earlier today.
Unfortunately for us, there was a severe cold warning that we foolishly disregarded. The temperature up there was -41° c. I got an ice cream headache from being out there. When I took off my goggles the condensation that was in there froze on my eyelashes and produced drops of ice ON MY FREAKING EYE LASHES.
Not only was the weather shite but the snow was pure crap as well. It was hard packed snow with a 2cm layer of fresh powder on top. In other words I had ZERO ability to carve. When I did a sharp turn my edge didn't grab onto anything and I wiped out. I smashed into the ground knee first, and the impact felt like hitting dirt NOT malleable snow. Needless to say, I have a huge bruise on my knee, and oddly enough a bloody gash on it. How a knee can get a gash from getting hit, I don't know, but there we have it.
After that little mishap, I wiped out again and took the impact on my ribs and somehow managed to crush the left soup can. Soon afterwards I called the day awash and headed back home.
Here's hoping we get some good snow and better weather soon.
