Concert: Henry Rollins spoken word tour 2004

04.03.04 - 02:32am
mood: Quixotic

It now seems to be a yearly ritual for Henry Rollins to come to Toronto during the March/April spring season. And he once again chose to appear at the University of Toronto's Convocation hall. A hall, which has the most horrible, wooden, back/posterior destroying, seats, in the history of bad seats. He spoke for close to three hours on such a wide range of subjects that I can't possibly remember or mention them all in my review, so what follows are two or three topics that poped into my head right away.

Rollins was as funny and entertaining as ever. He talked about his countries buffoon of a president, Mr. Bush, and the war in Iraq and Afghanistan. As well as their space program, and the fact that the Mars photos were as impressive as the ones in that Val Kilmer movie that they took in the Mohave Desert with a red filter equipped camera.

Another favourite topic of Rollins is his quest for the his "dream girl", one which is hot, crazy smart (think nerd), appreciates good literature, and has great taste in music. Unfortunately that hunt is going very poorly in L.A. where he currently resides. And from my own similar quest I can vouch that the hunt in the Tdot is just as crappy as in L.A. His diagnosis of the problem was that he was destined to die old and alone, but fortunately he has perfected his masturbatory technique to the point where he thinks he's going to pass out. Kudos to him on that feat, I guess practice does make perfect ; )

He also spoke about a strange musical project involving him William Shatner, Ben Folds, and the guitarist for Kyus/King-X. Look for that on the new William Shatner album coming out later this year.

Like I said he had a lot more material but that's all I'm writing down. If you want to find out more check out this review of Rollins 2004 tour, or pick up his new spoken word DVD. This review is over.
