Sometime late last year I heard talk of a movie called Secretary. From what people were telling me, it sounded like something right up my alley so I made a note to myself to check it out. Skip to present day Tokyo, oops no my bad, skip to present day Toronto, and I can finally say I have seen the movie, and it did not disappoint. For those of you not familiar with the movie and its premise, here is my description in 50 words or less: Secretary is the tale of a young woman that discovers the submissive nature of her being at the hands of her sadist boss.
The young girl is played by Maggie Gyllenhaal, who you might all remember as Donnies sister in Donnie Darko (his sister in the movie AND in real life). Her boss the lawyer, is played by James Spader. The movie gets 5 stars in my book, it was funny, romantic, and sad, all rolled into one. The feel good movie of the year if you ask me :)
I have a few issues to pick with it, but overall, I highly recommend it to anyone that likes seeing cute girls getting their bottoms spanked.
Now my issues are just nitpicks and they are nothing that detracts from the movie, it's just that it uhh somewhat detracted me from the movie. First issue: What the hell time period does it take place in? My last guess was sometime in the late 70's early 80's... but I dunno I could be some what off. The Desani mineral water vending machines in the laundromat were quite a confusing product placement, it threw the time period right out the window. The musical choice for the scene with her and Peter in the bedroom was also confusing in relation to the time period(why use the 1990's era Cake version of the song?).
Next issue: what the hell did the press show up for? It was three bloody days, was it really that slow a news week? And who the hell tipped them off? And why were Peters parents part of the group waiting around outside? Shouldn't they have been pissed at her and nowhere near her vicinity?
Last issue: When he takes her upstairs shouldn't that white dress have some... how can I delicately phrase this... have some skid marks after her sitting in it for 3 days? We saw her pee in it, there should be at least some staining.
