PHP 5 POINT OOOOHHHH

PHP 5.0.0 beta 1 is out. The Changelog for it is impressive to say the least, redone XML extensions, zend engine 2, stream improvements, and the deliciously crunchy SQLite is now part of the package!!

Me and DC aka Maverick had checked out SQLite a month or two back and were quite impressed by it. So for it to be part of my most favourites of languages is just a big boon to us.

Back and alive

I am back from camping. I count 6 mosquito bites on my person... well 5 mosquitos 1 huge black fly bite. The place was swarming with winged menaces.
In the heat of Saturday, I was walking around with as little skin exposed as possible, long pants long pvc coat, hood up to keep them out of my neck, and a toque cause I kept thinking they were crawling into my hair... yes I'm that neurotic. I sweated so much from the layers I thought I was gonna pass out.
Fortunately we got there with only 3 or so hours of sunlight left. Rest of the trip is whatever camping is, sitting, drinking 2L bottles of water, eating peaches and trying to avoid junk food.

Jon brought up an RC airplane that we played with for a while and also an RC boat. We also had some nice target shooting sessions with pauls BB, semi-auto and his riffle with cool ass scope. I was pretty good with the semi auto handgun, the riffle we all had problems with. Since it was brand new, the scope wasnt properly calibrated.

Also saw 28 Days Later, just a few minutes ago before coming home. It was alright, I might discuss it in more detail later... If not I'll just ask this of those that saw it; wasn't that scene where the main guy goes kind of nutty near the end VERY similar to Richard going crazy near the end of The Beach? Only reason I thought of that connection, was cause when the movie ended I saw who had directed it, and who had written it.

Earlier this week I had said I was NOT going camping with everyone this weekend. Unfortunately that is no longer the case.

Today I had several phone calls, which in a quick summary were related to me seting-off some chain reaction of "Your not coming? Well then I guess I wont go either", that dominoed to something like five people not going if I didnt go. So I had to say "FINE damn it ill go".

So now everyone can go on this camping trip, instead of sitting around, indoors, away from the sun, having a boring canada day weekend. Which as a matter of fact was my IDEAL plan for this weekend.

Just getting in from the office, me and DC were down there playing on the g4 with the spankin new OSX PANTHER beta. So far my impression of it is that its damn sweet. We managed to crash plenty of apps in it, but thats to be expected from a beta of something to be released at the END of the year.

While out there we also did some brain storming for some new noizex services. Because it's all hush hush and in the works, I can't go into detail here but lets just say, keep an eye out for NX-market.

Also came up with a good idea for the thin client desktop/network app thing, I'm thinknig gecko/xul front end with flashmx remoting throw in to make it a bit more visually striking. Need to do some R&D into this idea now.

Picture of Light

I just saw this documentary on SPACE, called Picture of Light. The film is about some documentarians quest to capture the Aurora Borealis on film. It's set in Canada's arctic tundra, and has some beautiful shots of that frigid landscape. I think I need to get a DVD of it, because I found the commercials much too distracting, they kept breaking the flow of what the movie was trying to show us. Overall, I thought the movie was quite good, and I highly recommend others check it out.

We live in a time where things do not seem to exist unless they have been captured in an image.

Pinky has been found!! All is good...

I just wonder, do we now have to remove all our flyers posted within this 6 block radius? or does someone else do that?

Pinky is missing

06.25.03 - 11:50pm

Pinky went missing earlier today. We looked around everywhere for him, some people saw him down by the park, but we saw no trace of him down there...
Now we went backup around and put up flyers everywhere. He has a pet microchip tracking thing implanted so thats good. And our vet sent out an email to the other vets in the area if they find him they'll scan his ID chip and let us know right away.

Also talked to a bunch of people in the neighborhood, they're gonna keep their eyes open for him aswell. So I'm staying positive and hoping he'll be back soon.... I have to stay positive.... can't lose another kitty this year :*(

WOHOO, thanks to the efforts of DC and Mikey all the data on the primary hard drive of Chastity has been saved.
I just poped in the newly formated and refurbished drive and have begun to back up the content that they restored.

I think the lesson for the kids, from all this, is that raid 0+1 is the way to go.

PS. the subject line "Platters not Plantains" reffered to hard drive platters... you see its suppose to be witty... :P

Matrix Reloaded

06.18.03 - 05:11pm
mood: Pleased
music playing: Marilyn Manson - The New Shit
Matrix Reloaded: The general consencus around here is that the movie was great. The Marolgivian was funny, Persephone was toight, the way Niobe and the whole Enter the Matrix story line tied into the movie and gave you some extra information and a background to what was happening in the movie, was an extra crunchy treat. Basicaly the only quible I had with it was the Zion orgy, seemed a bit forced and out of context, if you edit that whole part out of the movie, no one would ever notice that it was missing, because it did nothing to advanced the story, but meh whatever its there I've moved on. The burly brawl scene was without a doubt the most amazing fx scene, my jaw just hit the floor when it happened and did not go back up until it was over... I was just looking at it and thinking "why do I even bother trying to do 3d shit". Now I VERY badly want to get me some photogrammetry plugins for Max, I think one of those plus Brazil r/s would produce some nice images.
Trinity as expected did not disapoint. Having forknowledge of her SSH1/nmap/exploit hacking scene, made it all the more sweeter when I saw it go down on screen. Neo I gotta say had the coolest damn outfit in the movie(not including Persephone's tight white latex), it was this jacket/cloak deally, looked like an asian cut, high neck, cassock type thing. It was very stylish.
Now to wrap this up I'll say that I've heard a few theories as to what happend at the end, and alot of them are good and from what we know so far could be valid, but I'm sticking to my original theory until its proven wrong. The theory being that they've never seen the "real world". The 20th century peak of humanity universe and the scorched earth/zion/ sewer tubes universe are just nested worlds within the matrix construct, and Neo realized it near the end when he stoped the squiddies. If that theory holds, then the next movie should be about them actually leaving the matrix and not a war to save zion. Which would sorta suck unless the Wachoskis pull off something really cool in it. Beacause come on, the first movie we saw him leave a matrix, who needs to see that again? The fact that The Matrix Online takes place after Revolutions and is played inside the matrix, leads me to belive that we will not see a big battle that destroys the matrix and frees humanity, we will only see an escape for Neo and his rag tag team. Or I could hopefully be WAY off on this tangent. We will know this November.

PicturePile

The new PicturePile went up today. It's a fresh code rewrite from the previous iterations of it and is now at LifeCycle 2 ver 1.0 (some people like the sound of Revision 2 ver 1.0, so I dunno which will be the official title).
I got pretty much every feature from the new design document implemented, minus the user system, which isn't set to kick in for a while anyways.

Total cost of the project was 1845$ or 20.5hr * 90$ cha-ching!!! A payment plan is being worked out with bashtard, but I think it's safe to assume that some drinks are in order, only 2 people will get that innuendo ;)
