Liberal NDP Coalition?

If a vote of non confidence is passed against the Conservatives next week. At least that means the Conservatives 3rd attempt at passing bill C-61 (Canadian DMCA) will also fail, since the NDP will oppose any such attempt from the Liberals.

So I say bring on the political turmoil.

Concert: Henry Rollins Spoken Word 2008

10.27.08 - 11:46pm
mood: meh

It's been about a year since Henry's last show in Toronto, and according to him this show is part of that same tour which hasn't ended yet!
While funny at parts, the show was lacking compared to previous performances.

I think he needs to take a break from touring and needs some interesting shit to happen to him, maybe get kidnapped or something (to take a page from the Chris Rock book of comedy).

Some of the funnier moments included:
* lesson on not listening to Slayer while exercising
* make biological on tree = means pee on tree
* apparently in the U.S. people are opposed to gay marriage because human rectum is a gateway rectum and could lead to people wanting to marry horses (hilarious)

In conclusion, it was entertaining, but not nearly as funny or as captivating a 3hrs of spoken word as he's done in the past.

Formal Fridays

10.24.08 - 04:15pm
mood: meh

A while back I read about some Yahoo guys that had started a "formal friday" policy, where they would dress nice on Fridays to offset the fact that every other day of the week was their "casual Friday" and they dressed in flip flops and pajamas. I thought it was a funny idea, and considering my exposure to the Japanese salary men who don nice suits every day of the week even when their job is not bay st douche bags, I thought it'd be fun to do our own casual Friday.

I brought the idea up to Qiuli and Solomon who were also familiar with the Japanese Salary Men, and they wanted in on this action too.

So today we classed up the place with our nice suits. People were confused as to why they kept seeing people in suits, and the questions I got ranged from if I had a job interview, a funeral or was attending civil union ceremony : P

It was fun times, and enough people said they wanted in on it, that we think we're going to do this again in a month with even more people.

Movie: Rocknrolla

10.15.08 - 12:25am

Guy Ritchie's new movie is in a limited North American release, playing in Toronto, L.A. and N.Y.

We just had a chance to see it and must say it was GREAT. The spiritual successor to Snatch, a great British heist flick with plenty of violence, comedy and plot twists.

Highly recommended checking it out once it's released in more theaters later this month.

1) Beverly Hills Chihuahua - 17.5 M
2) Quarantine - 14.2 M
3) Body of Lies - 13.1 M

Seriously? Do we really want the same populous that made "Beverly Hills Chihuahua" the number one movie in Canada, to cast a vote for a prime minsister today? I fear for our future.

iPhone: SMS Fun

09.10.08 - 06:11pm
mood: meh

The iPhone stores it's SMS message history in an SQLite3 DB file located in the following directory:

/private/var/mobile/Library/SMS/sms.db

Once you have grabbed the sms.db file, you can open it with your favourite SQLite3 management program (I endorse Sqliteman), and can then proceed to query your data to your hearts content.

Here are some fun queries to try:
(Note: In some of these queries I'm using % LIKE wildcard for matching because some numbers get +1 prepended to them in the phone book)

View all of your messages:
select * from message order by date;

Tally up how many messages you've exchanged with each person, and order the list by the message count:
select * from (select count(address) as count, address from message group by group_id) order by count desc;

View full message thread with specific person:
select * from message where address like "%4165551234" order by date asc

How many messages you sent someone:
select count(*) from message where address like "%4165551234" and association_id = 0

And how many they sent back:
select count(*) from message where address like "%4165551234" and association_id != 0

Tally total messages from each area code:

select substr(address,-10,3) as areacode, sum(count) as total from (select count(address) as count, address from message group by group_id) where areacode group by areacode order by count desc;

And just for fun, here is a graph generated from this data showing which area code sent me the most messages:

1) Go to this directory: /System/Library/TextInput/
2) Rename the sub directory TextInput_en.bundle to TextInput_en.backup

Election Time... Again

09.07.08 - 08:15pm
mood: meh

So the current ruling party just dismantled parliament to waste money and time on a new election based on their speculation that they might get more votes this time around.

Seriously? Can we make a new rule that says if you just quit your fucking job as Prime Minister you can't run for re-election for the same job again?
