Bashtard.Com has gone through a world of evolution in the past 5 or 6 years. Mainly server-side.
Bashtard.Com, after I took over the hosting was run on a Pentium 233 with not a lot of ram. As time went by, and parts became spare, the web server was upgraded to a Pentium-2 400. Continuing through evolution, the web server eventually became a powerful Pentium-3 800 with 512MB of RAM.
Then it was time to dabble in mail servers. I'm sure those who have read enough of my blogs are fully aware of all the pointless blogs on the subject. Hardware wise, the mail server evolved from the previously used Pentium 233 to a Celeron 600, to a Celeron 700 to a Pentium-3 550 with 512MB of RAM.
Then... a brilliant idea!!!
Migrate all services onto my desktop PC which is an AMD XP 2500+ with 768MB of RAM. So I began dabbling in Virtual machines to run under Windows 2000. They kept crashing and I was getting poor performance. The decision was made, upgrade the hardware yet again. I upgraded to an AMD Athlon 3000+ with 2 Gigs of RAM. Virtual machine performance now... INCREDIBLE.
Therefore, what can a Mac not do?
1. Run Windows 2000 as a host OS
2. Run a Linux Virtual machine for Web/Email
3. Run a second Linux Virtual machine for backups
...all done simultaneously. Yes, I was smart enough to put my backups on a separate HD from the Web/Email.
There are 3 benefits to this:
1. My UPS' have over 6 hours of uptime each
2. The hydro savings
3. My room is no longer a furnace
In conclusion, people still hate the french.
